What is The Ohio Donor Registry?
Being in the Ohio Donor Registry is more than just an expression of interest in becoming a donor. It is a way to legally give consent for the anatomical donation of your organs, tissues and eyes upon your death, for any purposes authorized by law.
The Registry is a statewide, computerized database of people who have indicated their wish to become an organ, tissue and eye donor upon their death, which is maintained by the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV). Access to the Registry is limited to designated medical professionals and is used only at the time of death to confirm your identity and wishes.
While joining the Ohio Donor Registry is a way to ensure that your wishes are honored, it is still important to tell your family of your decision so they can help honor and respect your choice to make life better for someone else. Your family will be consulted as part of the process which determines suitability for transplantation.
